NEW JERSEY MILITIA, HEARD’S BRIGADE $500 SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY The New Jersey Militia, Heard’s Brigade is a company of living historians re-creating the life of the militia soldiers and civilians of the American Revolution. We are offering a $500 scholarship opportunity in the form of an essay contest. ESSAY TOPIC: "George Washington's leadership of the Continental Army has been both praised and criticized for over 200 years. Using both researched facts and your own thoughts, discuss the man and events with regard to George Washington's performance as commander-in-chief of the rebel forces during the American War for Independence." Submissions will be judged on content and presentation of ideas. Spelling and grammar do count. The winner will be notified by March 31, 2012. To be eligible the applicant must meet the following criteria:
• New Jersey residence for 12 months. Submit the required materials postmarked no later than February 28, 2012 to: New Jersey Militia, Heard’s Brigade The award for the New Jersey Militia, Heard's Brigade Scholarship may be presented at the recipient's Senior Awards Ceremony by a member of the New Jersey Militia, Heard's Brigade. The award of $500 will be credited toward the fall 2012 semester. Should the recipient not graduate or attend college in 2012, the prize will pass to the second place entry.
