NEW JERSEY MILITIA, HEARD’S BRIGADE $500 SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY The New Jersey Militia, Heard’s Brigade is a company of living historians re-creating the life of the militia soldiers and civilians of the American Revolution. We are offering a $500 scholarship opportunity in the form of an essay contest. ESSAY TOPIC: Using both facts and your own thoughts, analyze the reasons why the thirteen American colonies were able to win their independence from Great Britain. Moving beyond the "good guy vs. bad guy" ideology we learned as children, discuss such things as participants and circumstances, etc. Submissions will be judged on content and presentation of ideas. Spelling and grammar do count. The winner will be notified by March 31, 2010. To be eligible the applicant must meet the following criteria:
• New Jersey residence. Submit the required materials postmarked no later than February 28, 2010 to: New Jersey Militia, Heard’s Brigade The award for the New Jersey Militia, Heard's Brigade Scholarship may be presented at the recipient's Senior Awards Ceremony by a member of the New Jersey Militia, Heard's Brigade. The award of $500 will be credited toward the fall 2010 semester. Should the recipient not graduate or attend college in 2010, the prize will pass to the second place entry.
